Lilac Greyhounds

  • 1 cup sugar
  • ½ cup filtered water
  • 3 tablespoons fresh, unsprayed lilac petals
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed red grapefruit juice
  • ½ cup vodka
  • Ice cubes
  • 2 grapefruit slices
  • 2 sprigs dried organic lilac

For lilac simple syrup, combine sugar, filtered water and fresh lilacs in small saucepan. Heat to boil, stirring to dissolve sugar. Cook until slightly reduced, 4-5 minutes; cool. Strain into small container. Can be refrigerated, covered, up to 1 week. Makes 1 cup.

Stir together grapefruit juice, vodka and 2 tablespoons lilac simple syrup. Fill 2 tumblers with ice cubes, add vodka mixture and garnish with grapefruit slice and dried lilac sprig. For a nonalcoholic option, vodka can be replaced with splash of soda water. Makes 2 cocktails.

To make a cannabis-infused version, use the method above to incorporate lilac petals into the simple syrup recipe.
